TREADMILL RUNNING/WALKING DURING COLD AND RAIN
Many of us would rather be outside running or walking then inside on a treadmill but we just might not have a choice especially during winter months.
In Atlanta, we have had some of the coldest weather that I have ever seen and I was born and raised in this city. So, the question is “how do we avoid the boredom of working out indoors.
1. First, try to find a gym that has TV’s that you can watch while you are walking or running for at least 30 minutes to an hour. That is the amount of time that I feel you can get your heart pumping and get the aerobic benefit that you need to stay fit.
2. There are great deals out there on equipment for your home if you have enough space. That way you have no excuse. You just put on your running shoes and clothing and jump on the treadmill.
3. You don’t have to make your workout tough but if you are looking to do intervals or hill repeats, you can do these workouts on the treadmill as well as outside on the asphalt and the good thing is that the treadmill has some give to the belt and is not as tough on your knees and other joints.
4. You don’t have to obsess on how far you go because the treadmill tells you the distance and how many calories you have burned.
5. Finally, there is less layering of clothing when you are inside, less shivering due to freezing temperatures and less laundry to do.
I hope all of you will write to me if you have any questions concerning ways to do your speedwork on the treadmill verses outside on the track.
Enjoy running for life!!!
